Strijd tegen Israel gevochten met Nederlandse subsidie (2)

Schreef ik gisteren over subsidie uit onder andere Nederland voor anti-Israël organisaties in de Palestijnse gebieden, vandaag lees ik een onthullend stuk in De Dagelijkse Standaard over de subsidiestromen naar anti-Israël organisaties en activiteiten. Oxfam-Novib, dat in deze kabinetsperiode al meer dan 500 miljoen Euro aan overheidsgeld ontving om projecten mee te steunen, speelt hierin een hoofdrol. Zo heeft Een Ander Joods Geluid in 2008 60.000 Euro mogen ontvangen, en Stop de Bezetting in 2007 15.000 Euro. Het Palestina Komitee kreeg de afgelopen jaren 38.000 Euro aan subsidie, en diverse 'Nakba' en antibezettingsactiviteiten kregen nog eens tienduizenden Euro's aan subsidie. Zie voor een overzicht van organisaties en projecten hieronder. Zij zijn allen afkomstig van een lijst op de Linkis website.


Linkis is een samenwerkingsverband van de grote ontwikkelingsorganisaties, waaronder Oxfam-Novib, die sturing geeft aan de financiering van projecten in Nederland, die de 'bewustwording over hoe ons leven hier samenhangt met de problemen daar' moeten vergroten.

Organisaties die in Nederland iets willen organiseren dat de bewustwording of het debat rond armoedeproblemen en onrechtvaardigheid in de wereld versterkt, kunnen bij dit programma een aanvraag doen voor financiële ondersteuning.

Aldus Oxfam-Novib. So far so good. Ik kan mij in die omschrijving helemaal vinden, en projecten die fair trade producten promoten, ons bewust maken van de lange weg die producten hebben afgelegd voordat ze in de winkel liggen en wie daarbij uitgebuit worden, verdienen mijn steun. Wij zijn er medeverantwoordelijk voor dat wat we van ver halen, onder fatsoenlijke omstandigheden is geproduceerd, en daar bijvoorbeeld geen kinderarbeid aan te pas is gekomen en de werknemers fatsoenlijk worden behandeld en betaald. De beelden van mensonterende omstandigheden in allerlei werkplaatsen, fabriekjes en plantages zodat wij onze 'kiloknaller', spijkerbroek of .... voor een prikkie kunnen aanschaffen, zijn schrijnend. Soms worden producten (bijvoorbeeld vlees) bewust in derde wereldlanden geproduceerd omdat het daar goedkoper kan en je niet met lastige milieu-, arbeids- of dierenwetgeving te maken hebt. Wij dragen een verantwoordelijkheid voor de gevolgen van ons consumentengedrag voor landen in de derde wereld, en aan activiteiten om die bewustwording te vergroten mag van mij best belastinggeld worden besteed.

Volgens het artikel in De Dagelijkse Standaard (en anderen zoals bijvoorbeeld Carel Brendel) heeft Oxfam-Novib een politiek linkse agenda, is zij pro-islam en pro-Palestina. Ik heb zelf wel eens moeite met het op een hoop gooien van die dingen, maar dat is niet alleen de schuld van de mensen die dit aan de kaak stellen. Helaas is het voor veel linkse organisaties normaal om anti-Israël activiteiten te steunen, en zij staan over het algemeen positiever tegenover de islam dan rechtse organisaties of media. Het is dus niet zo vreemd dat rechtse media en blogs (zoals Elsevier en Het Vrije Volk) deze zaken op één hoop gooien, en de steun aan linkse en extremistische clubs als Nederland Bekent Kleur en Stop de Bezetting gebruiken om de hele ontwikkelingshulp te delegitimeren. Het zou links te denken moeten geven: de strijd voor een rechtvaardigere wereldhandel, voor solidariteit met de minder bedeelden, zowel binnen Nederland als op mondiaal niveau, die laat je toch niet vertroebelen door een extremistische tante als Gretta Duisenberg? Of de nazivergelijkingen van EAJG? Het is helemáál wonderlijk dat iemand als Dries Van Agt nu met veel tamtam door links wordt binnengehaald en omarmd. GroenLinks bijvoorbeeld was altijd fel tegen zijn ideeën gekant, maar toen hij de 'juiste' dingen zei over de 'Israëlische Apartheid' en zijn leugens verkondigde dat de Palestijnen pas vanaf de jaren '90 begonnen met 'gewelddadig verzet' tegen Israël, was hij opeens hun eregast. Ik kon het nauwelijks geloven. Hoe opportunistisch kun je zijn? Of hoe anti-Israël kun je zijn? Als Wilders zich ooit zou bekeren en een Israëlhater zou worden, wacht hem dan ook zo'n warm onthaal bij GroenLinks?

Ik laat de steun voor linkse clubs hier voor wat zij is, en heb een aantal projecten tegen Israël opgesomd. Ze zijn allemaal afkomstig van de website van Linkis. Er is ongetwijfeld nog veel meer subsidie vergeven aan anti-Israël clubs, zowel direct als indirect. Het wordt tijd dat hier een einde aan komt. Waarom moet de Nederlandse belastingbetaler opdraaien voor paginagrote advertenties om met Hamas te gaan praten, oproepen om geen Israëlische producten meer te kopen en allerhande propaganda en leugens over Israël, die vaak slechts tot doel hebben om haar bestaansrecht te delegitimeren? Als de overheid het zo belangrijk vind dat het bewustzijn over het Israëlisch-Palestijns conflict wordt vergroot, laat zij dan direct projecten die daarop gericht zijn financieren, en dit niet via de omweg van de ontwikkelingshulp doen. Alle organisaties die zich hiermee bezig houden, dienen dan gelijke kansen op financiering te maken, ook zij die juist positief tegenover Israël staan. En de vele donateurs van Oxfam-Novib weten dat hun geld ook echt terechtkomt bij de hulpbehoevenden in de derde wereld.

EAJG’s outcome for 2008 could be assessed as ‘Media, public, researchers and politicians recognise another perspectives with regards to the conflict around Israel-OPT and a Jewish identity as a result of professional lobbying and information dissemination by EAJG’. To achieve the above outcome, EAJG will undertake the following activities: 1. Information en opinions: creation of a website; publication of newsletter and articles and FAQ booklet regarding Israel-Palestine conflict provided additional funding is available; PR and Media contacts including creation of guidelines and templates (for internal use) about contacting media on urgent issues. 2. Public activities: focus is on participating in campaigns and deploying well known personalities as speakers/spokespersons with regards to providing a more positive image of Palestine and Palestinians. Important campaign issues include ‘Boycot de Bezetting’, 60 jaar Israel, 60 jaar Nakbah, and various Cultural interventions. Having learned from their past experience, to increase the effectiveness of their lobby, EAJG would ensure that external guests and VIPs active on the issue get to meet and talk to the press and politicians on a priority basis and then time permitting address the public via conferences and lecture tours. 3. Youth: More young people would be approached by the youth wing of EAJG called Next Step(pers). A regular project called Eye4You would also be launched to bring together youth in OPT, Israel and the NL together via sharing a common cyber lesson on history of the middle-east. This activity would be funded by NCDO. 4. Policy advocacy and lobby: intensive contact and meetings with politicians from the Tweede Kamer, church based groups, and other Jewish groups. 2008 would also be used to identify concrete dialogue partners hitherto missing from the list. 5. Public support: increasing its constituency amongst the Jewish community in NL, spear heading the European Jews for a Just Peace and developing common agenda. 6. Fund raising, donors and sponsors: increasing the donor base by better informing the current and new donors and identification of appropriate funds who could have interest in EAJG etc.

Het Nederlands Palestina Komitee streeft naar versterking van de solidariteit met het Palestijnse volk. Het ondersteunt het recht van het Palestijnse volk op zelfbeschikking, het recht op een onafhankelijke Palestijnse staat, alsook het recht op terugkeer van alle Palestijnse vluchtelingen naar hun oorspronkelijke woongebieden. Het richt zich daarbij in Nederland op bewustwording en actief handelen van zowel het brede publiek als specifieke doelgroepen daarbinnen, alsmede op regering en parlement. Daartoe verschaft het NPK informatie over de historische en internationaal rechtelijke aspecten, de dagelijkse werkelijkheid en de politieke , sociale en economische strijd van de Palestijnen. Informatie aan het grote publiek komt tot stand middels het tijdschrift Soemoed, lezingen, bijeenkomsten en manifestaties, tentoonst ellingen, demonstratieve tochten, straatactiviteiten, zoals regelmatige flyeracties, informatiestands bij bijeenkomsten en manifesta ties, deelname aan bijeenkomsten van politieke partijen, NGO's enzovoort, media optredens (radio en televisie), bijdragen in dag- en weekbladen, persberichten, en tenslotte NPK's elektronische nieuwsbrief (NPK/info) en de NPK-website www.palestina-komitee.nl. Met dit projectvoorstel wil het NPK zijn informatievoorziening aan het brede publiek verbeteren. Het project betreft drie reguliere instrumenten die het NPK gebruikt om informatie te verspreiden, te weten: Het tijdschrift Soemoed, NPK/info en de NPK-website Soemoed, NPK/info en de NPK website hebben verschillende, zij het overlappende functies en doelgroepen. Soemoed is voor lezers die meer in-depth en systematische informatie zoeken. In tegenstelling tot Soemoed is NPK/info vluchtiger. Het is een ideaal middel om gedigitaliseerde doelgroepen frequent mee te informeren, en ook informatie te verspreiden over op handen zijnde acties. Ook buitenstaanders verzoeken NPK weleens om hun informatie via NPK/info te mogen verspreiden. De NPK-website tenslotte is voor allerhande doelgroepen die actief naar informatie op zoek gaan. De site geeft toegang tot diverse typen van informatie, zowel diepgaande historische informatie, als meer vluchtige en vergankelijke nieuwsitems, zoals over ophanden zijnde acties.

The Nederlandse Palestina Komitee (NPK) considers itself part of an international movement against oppression, exclusion and discrimination. With this perspective it seeks to strengthen solidarity with the Palestinian people in the Netherlands. It does so by undertaking lobby and advocacy work in the Netherlands and at EU level. Under this project called The Human Experience of Palestine, NPK seeks to disseminate more information about life under occupation in Palestine amongst the Dutch Public via the 4 Dutch volunteers who would live and work in Nablus. NPK hopes that more members of the Dutch public, by identifying themselves with the 4 Dutch volunteers, would be accessed than before. The images on the T.V and media would be supplemented by the personal narrative of the 4 volunteers who, while avoiding political analysis, would highlight daily life in Palestine and how ordinary Palestinians are influenced by their unique situation. Within Netherlands, this could contribute towards more nuanced understanding of Palestinian-Israel conflict and create empathy for a population living under occupation. This project is in co-operation with a Palestinian-Canadian organisation based in Nablus, West Bank called Project Hope. NPK aims to send 4 Dutch volunteers to the work in Nablus with children and young people on specific themes identified by their Palestinian partner organisation. Upon their return, the 4 Dutch volunteers would talk about their experience in various places within Netherlands, with the media and on the internet

NIPI (Nederlands Instituut Palestina/Israel) stelt zich ten doel te komen tot een evenwichtige berichtgeving in de Nederlandse media over het Israelisch-Palestijns conflict. De berichtgeving is vaak eenzijdig doordat de Palestijnse visie al te vaak ontbreekt. Het probleem is mede gevolg van het gebrek bij de media aan contacten met de Palestijnse samenleving en van een slecht communicatie beleid van Palestijnse zijde. NIPI wil ondermeer door het stimuleren van wetenschappelijk onderzoek deze problemen in kaart brengen. N ipi streeft daarnaast naar een Europees-Palestijns dialoog via de media. Dit wil NIPI bewerkstelligen via een samenwerking met het Jerusalem Media and Communication Centre (JMCC). Doel van deze samenwerking is enerzijds bij de Palestijnse media en samenleving meer begrip kweken voor het functioneren van de westerse media in een democratische samenleving en voor westerse opinies. Anderzijds is het doel de West Europese media en indirect de bevolking kennis te laten maken met de gedachtenwereld en visie van Palestijnse journalisten en opinieleiders. Om vervolg te geven op een door Cordaid gesubsidieerde reis naar Palestijnse organisatie Jerusalem Media and Communication Centre 2006, wil NIPI 4 Palestijnse journalisten naar Nederland halen. Doel van dit bezoek is in eerste plaats de gasten kennis te laten maken met de werkwijze van de Nederlandse media en hun rol in een open en democratische samenleving. Daarnaast zal er een uitwisseling plaastvinden van ervaringen en opvattingen over berichtgeving in het Westen over Israelisch-Palestijnse conflict met Nederlandse journalisten en deskundigen. Tevens zal er een discussie middag worden georganiseerd met studenten van de school voor journalistiek in Utrecht. Tevens zal dit bezoek worden gebruikt om de samenwerking tussen NIPI en JMCC verder vorm te geven. Linkis geeft een bijdrage van 8.500 Euro aan dit project.

This project 'One Land, Two System' is centred around the current village of Ein-Hud located in the Carmel Mountains, Israel. The original village of the same name was occupied by the Israelis in 1948. The original Arab inhabitants of Ein-Hud were suddenly internal refugees and escaped to the mountains where they established another village and called the new village Ein Hud, after the old one. The new Ein Hud(with a current polulation of about 250 people) was an 'unrecognized village' and its people were classified as internal refugees which meant that they had no access to services such as water, electricity, schools or medical care. In addition, over the years, the Isreali government passed various decrees to dispossess the residents further. In 2004, the Israeli government recognised a small part of the village Ein-Hud and developed a master-plan for its development. This master plan limits the future growth of the village and excludes many homesteads in addition to throttling livelihood possibilities. The community meanwhile also had to change its tactics-from fighting for recognition to lobbying for a just master plan! Very quickly, the community realised its inability to deal with local and national professional committees such as the Planning Committee, The National Park Authorities etc who asked for an alternative master plan, professionally elaborated before beginning any negotiation with the villagers- an expensive preposition! At this point, FAST came in the picture and responded by holding an international architecture and planning competition for an alternative master plan for the village of Ein Hud in order to show that there are alternatives to the Israeli State planning. Together with the Ein-Hud villagers, the winning entries were compiled to form an alternative master plan and handed over to the mayor for submission to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and to be used as a negotiating tool with local administration. In this background, the overall goals of the project 'One Land, Two Systems' are: 1) Israelis and international community are aware about the discrimination faced by Arab minorities by use of architectural and spatial planning tools 2) Ein-Hud's economic, social and cultural development via the creation of local knowledge network. This would be achieved by undertaking three activities in Ein-Hud: a permanent exhibition consisting of the alternative master plan, the entries from the international competition and FAST's own research results etc.; an Archive of memory, history and displacement where local stories, documents, maps, pictures would be classified and digitalized for public display; and a public event attended by internationally renowned architects and celebrities during which the alternative master plan would be presented. The aim of the last activity is to generate media- hype locally and internationally. Linkis/Oxfam Novib is only supporting the first activity- namely the creation and placement of the permanent exhibition in Ein-Hud.

The project is a set of three activities commemorating 60 years of the creation of the Israeli state and 60 years of destruction (or Nakba) of the Palestinian one and would take place from 15th to 18th May 2008 in De Balie, Amsterdam with a possibility of hosting the event in The Hague as well. The first activity consists of a screening of documentaries and films (about 12 in total) made by Israeli and Palestinian film makers. These documentaries and films have been selected on the basis of critical light they shed on the current Israeli state policy against occupied Palestinian territories and the implication of this aggression on internal governance. Take for instance the case of education. The Israeli schooling system focuses on raising soldiers, where the children are drilled home the message that an Israeli and a Jew is always under threat and the only way to respond to this threat is via violence - the provenance of the armed forces. Many of these films are anchored to narratives and personal testimonies of Israeli citizens torn between their loyalty to Israel and the need to be fair and humane. Each screening would be followed by a discussion between the audience and a panel of experts. The third event would be the special edition of the Eutopia magazine. St. Eutopia which brings out this magazine aims to increase the contribution of intellectuals and artists with a migrant background in regard to the discussions within The Netherlands and Europe on migration, globalization and cultural diversity.

Palestijnse vrouwen staan voor een driedubbele uitdaging {1} Als vrouwen onder een bezetting die alle aspecten van hun levens controleert. {2} Als vrouwen in een patriarchale en discriminatoire samenleving {3} Als vrouwen die moeten leven onder een personenrecht ,dat niet in staat is bescherming van hen rechten te verzekeren. Op 25 mei 2008 organiseert de Arabisch Nederlandse Vrouwen Kring (ANVK) een publieke discussie bijeenkomst over de rechten van vrouwen in Palestina, getiteld "Onbekende Verhalen van Palestijnse Vrouwen". In lezingen en rondetafel gesprekken waar vooral vrouwen (sprekers, organisaties, journalisten) discussiëren over het volgende onderwerp: "Hoe kunnen we de vrouwen organisaties in Palestina helpen" Deskundigen vanuit verschillende Palestijnse en Nederlandse organisaties zullen een analyse geven over de situatie van vrouwen in dit land. Ook vertegenwoordigers uit andere landen zullen worden uitgenodigd om ervaringen te delen met het oog op de bevordering van meer permanente vormen van internationale samenwerking en informatie uitwisseling.

A one day conference in May 2008 to draw attention to women`s rights under personal law in Palestine is being organised by the Arabisch Nederlandse Vrouwenkring. The key speakers are women activists from Palestine or from other parts of Europe but of Palestinian origin. A lot is said and written about Arab women in general and women in the middle-east in particular but without much participation from them. The current conference seek to change this asymmetry and exposes the manner in which the 'women's question' is relegated to the background in face of occupation/ freedom struggle. The conference target audience include Dutch politicians, civil servants, media and civil society representatives followed by the general public.

The current event aims to provide a platform to two charismatic speakers to talk to public and press about the 'different reality' behind the dominant images and discourse around the middle-east conflict. These two speakers are writer and academic Prof. Norman Finkelstein based in New York and the former Dutch Prime Minister and ex-Professor Dr.Andries van Agt. The event is scheduled to take place in St.Arminius building in Rotterdam on the 21st of May 2008 and about 200-350 people are expected to attend the event. The event would be preceded and followed by release of press briefings and public updates via the newsletters and the websites of the various participating organisations. Besides the event in Rotterdam, Prof.Finkelstein is expected to give 3 other talks in Belgium. St. Palestina is organising this event in co-operation with number of other actors such as NIPI (Nederlands Instituut Palestina/Isr ael), Paletsina Komite Rotterdam, COS Rijnmond-Rotterdam, St.Arminius (a platform of Rotterdam based Churches) and political parties Groen Links, PvdA and SP. Almost all these organisations are also providing financial and material support to the event.

The United Nations International Conference of Civil Society in Support of Israeli-Palestinian Peace held in August 2007 in Bruseels decided to nominate 2008 as the 'Year of the Nakba (destruction)' to draw attention to phenomenal and continuing displaceme nt of Palestinian people. A number of organisations from the Netherlands who participated in the conference decide to form a working group to commemorate the Nakba. The key aim of the group is to draw attention of the Dutch public, media and politicians towards the lesser known aspects of the creation of an Israeli state in 1948, namely the destruction of a Palestinian state, identity, culture and more importantly people. The working group wants to highlight the heavy burden women continue to bear as a result of continued denial of right to education, housing, nutrition, health care, mobility and traditional practices etc. Towards this end, a one day conference is being organised by a number of women`s groups based in The Netherlands on the international day for women-8th March- with speakers from OPT, UK and the Netherlands. The event would also feature a cultural programme by a Palestinian music group and a Dutch choir. The conference is a joint effort of Nederlandse Palestina Komite, Palestijnse Vrouwen in Nederland, Vrouwen in het Zwart Nederland, Vrouwen voor Vrede, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and COS Utrecht. The conference wants to highlight the various aspects of women under the occupation - both as victims and change agents. In particular the conference focuses on challenges and opportunities for meeting the MDG targets for the occupied territories with respect to halving extreme poverty (when majority of the poor are women) and getting all children in primary schools by 2015. The organisers aim to achieve the following by the end of this conference: - Dutch public and politicians have more information and awareness about the Nakba and its impact on Palestinian women. - Palestinian and Dutch women come together to influence political opinion forming with regards to peace between Israel and Palestine.

Van 5 t/m 9 juni 1967 werd de Zesdaagse oorlog gevoerd in het Midden-Oosten. Deze oorlog heeft verregaande consequenties gehad. In de loop van de tijd zijn door Israël veroverde gebieden deels teruggegeven, maar de Golan Hoogvlakte en de Palestijnse Gebieden (Gaza, Westelijke Jordaanoever en Oost-Jeruzalem) zijn tot op de dag van vandaag bezet door Israël. Wereldwijd wordt er aandacht besteed aan deze - in 2007 al 40 jaar durende - langste bezetting ter wereld. In Nederland is een initiatiefgroep opgericht, bestaande uit o.a. Een Ander Joods Geluid, United Civilians for Peace (UCP), ICCO en het Nederlands Palestina Kommittee. Deze initiatiefgroep coördineert alle activiteiten die in het kader van de herdenking van 40 jaar bezetting door maatschappelijke organisaties in Nederland worden uitgevoerd in de periode 1 mei t/m 9 juni 2007. Als gezamenlijke activiteiten worden op 1 mei eerst de campagne gelanceerd, op 5 juni een petitie aangeboden en op 9 juni een demonstratie georganiseerd. In de tussenliggende periode voeren verschillende organisaties acties waaronder lezingen, tentoonstellingen, vredeswakes en discussiebijeenkomsten. De initiatiefgroep bestaat uit een kerngroep die regelmatig bijeenkomt voorafgaand aan de campagneperiode en die gezamenlijk de uitvoering van het programma bewaken. Een website met een kalender ondersteunt de campagne, evenals materiaal als folders en buttons. De initiatiefgroep neemt als uitgangspunt van de samenwerking een verklaring over 40 jaar bezetting, die op 5 juni wordt aangeboden aan de Vaste Kamercommissie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Bij de samenstelling van de initiatiefgroep is gekozen voor een programmamedewerker, een financieel deskundige en een campagnemedewerker. Niet alle deelnemende organisaties van de initiatiefgroep beschikken over voldoende financiële middelen. Andere organisaties beschikken juist over te weinig campagnecapaciteiten in de vorm van personele inzet en know-how. Besloten is dan ook dat de organisaties verenigd in de initiatiefgroep complementair werken. Voor Cordaid houdt dit in dat de campagneactiviteiten via UCP worden uitgevoerd, maar Cordaid financieel zal bijdragen aan de activiteiten van andere organisaties; ICCO en Oxfam Novib hebben dezelfde rol. Dit project heeft tot doel om in samenwerking met zeer diverse organisaties in Nederland zoveel mogelijk aandacht te genereren voor de voortdurende bezetting. De verwachting is dat hiermee duizenden Nederlanders direct worden bereikt via deelname in een activiteit en een veelvoud daarvan via berichtgeving in media.

2008 is the year when Israeli state celebrates 60 year of its existence. For the Palestinians, it is 60 years of misery and deprivation. For many, there is little hope for a peaceful solution to the conflict in the near future. This is further exacerbated by the fact that the current political power and dominant discourse in Israel is against dialogue and peaceful resolution with Palestine. In this context, for many outside the region, it could be of great interest to know about Israeli organisations and individuals who oppose their government's aggressive stance and question the strategies and actions of the state. This small but vocal minority is perhaps a slim beacon of hope indicating an increasing number of Israelis asking for peace and calmness amidst the chaos and rhetoric of self-defence. Een Ander Joods Geluid (EAJG) along with Steuncomite Israelische vredes- en mensenrechtenorg anisaties (SIVMO) has invited a group of Israeli-Jewish (and one joint Israeli- Palestinian) organisation to the Netherlands to expose this little-known 'another Israel' calling for peace and tolerance. The ultimate aim of the grant is that the Dutch public, media and politicians are aware that that 'another Israel' exists; and are sensitized about the need to support such voices of reason from the outside so that they can succeed both at the national and international level. Following is the list of Israeli peace and human rights organisations coming to NL for this event: Zochrot B'tselem Combatants for Peace Physicians for Human Rights New Profile International Committee on Education and Occupation Israeli Committee against House Demolitions A number of activities are planned in Amsterdam, Utrecht and The Hague which include public speaking tours, meet-the-press, dialogue with the 'opposition', meetings with youth groups and organisations, church representatives and briefing the Dutch politicians and think tanks.
